Panaji, June 6 (IBNS): After announcing cabinet’s approval on Medium of Instruction (MOI) at elementary education on Wednesday, Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar has begun official communications in the state’s regional language.
“I am writing notes and remarks on files in Konkani or Marathi language,” he told reporters.
He admitted with a grin that he still finds difficult using few regional words.
Parrikar had recently announced that schools teaching elementary education in regional languages will be given one time grant of Rs 12 lakh.
He also allowed 100-odd schools that changed its medium to English language last academic year from Konkani or Marathi to enjoy the grant-in-aid benefit.
To a question he replied that new schools in regional languages will be permitted near government schools provided it has less than 40 students.
“The past government was only ritualistic towards their commitments for official languages. Promoting Konkani or Marathi was secondary for them,” he alleged.

my question to the CM is how can Marathi be a regional language of Goa,from which origin, its disguisting to see the CM acting adamant always to what he wishes to do,konkani, english has been the regional languages of the Goa state.in what way is marathi even going to help the children in future globally, how does marathi bring quality of education, during elections Mr Parrikar has big words to speak if he destroys the origin of Goa he does not deserve to be the CM of Goa
konkani is the official language of Goa and not Marathi.Mr Parikar is only acting against his oppositions, and as a CM he should work for the state and for quality education, how can a outsider like Baba Ramdev comment to decide on making marathi as goa’s regional language, and for Mr Parikar act in the interest of people, dont try to change Goa’s tradition, culture and language, children learning right from primary school in english will have recognised and better education globally,it would help them in future and konkani being the official Goa’s language how can it be changed to marathi
