PANJIM: The State Government has scrapped 127 posts created in the Electricity Department by the erstwhile Congress Government.
Power Minister Milind Naik while confirming the scrapping of the posts refused to give more details. Sources, however, indicated that these posts were created before the Assembly election by Digambar Kamat-led Government to lure voters. The vacancies of linesman were being filled in violation of the March 3 Election Code of Conduct.
Manohar Parrikar, soon after taking over charge as chief minister had kept on hold around 1,500 job recruitments to various Government departments which were made just before the Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister had alleged that bogus ‘offer of appointment’ letters were distributed by a former minister in the run up to the elections to garner votes and said he would order a vigilance inquiry.
Currently, the requirements have been forwarded to Vigilance Department for inquiry.
Hundreds of job applicants had protested outside the Chief Minister’s official residence last month questioning Parrikar’s statement that the job recruitment done a little before the elections would not be honoured. They had threatened to go on a hunger strike.
