PANAJI: All the 40 legislators of the Goa legislative assembly cast their votes to elect the 14th President of the country at the Goa assembly on Thursday. All the votes were cast by 1.15 p.m.
Besides, Mr Shripad Naik, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader and one of the three Goan Members of Parliament also cast his vote at the Goa assembly.
The joint chief electoral officer of the state, Mr Narayan Navti told The Navhind Times that while 39 MLA and the BJP MP had cast their votes before 12 noon, the Congress MLA from Quepem, Mr Chandrakant Kavlekar, turned up to vote at 1.15 p.m.
The state Health Minister, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar was the first to cast his vote when the voting to elect the new President began at 10 a.m. He was followed by another BJP legislator, Dr Pramod Sawant. Mr Naik, the BJP MP voted at 12 o’clock.
Both the Congress MPs, Mr Francisco Sardinha (Lok Sabha) and Mr Shantaram Naik (Rajya Sabha) voted in the New Delhi.
Mr Navati said that ballot box would be flown to New Delhi on Friday.
